Now is the time to finish your new exhibit, make your travel reservations, pack your suitcase with your tradable items, and prepare for your trip to San Diego.
SANDICAL 2009 will be held January 16-18, 2009 at the Al Bahr Shrine Center, 5440 Kearny Mesa Road, San Diego, CA 92111. The show opens at 10am, closing at 6pm Friday and Saturday and at 4pm on Sunday. Our meeting will be on Saturday at the show hotel.
Hotels: The show hotel shares a parking lot with the Al Bahr Shrine Center. It's the Hampton Inn, 5434 Kearny Mesa Road, San Diego, CA 92111. A SANDICAL rate of $119 per night, with a two night minimum, has been negotiated with the Hampton. You may choose a king or two double beds at that price if you call 858-292-1482. If you prefer, there are two hotels directly next door, but a show rate has not been negotiated with them. The Residence Inn, 5400 Kearny Mesa Road, 858-278-2100 and the Ramada, 5550 Kearny Mesa Road, 858-278-0800.
Travel: From the San Diego International Airport, called Lindbergh Field Airport (SAN), there are a few choices to get to the show. Yellow Cab, 619-234-6161, will run about $35. Cloud 9 Super Shuttle, cloud9shuttle.com or 619-542-8981, which shares your trip with other travelers, takes longer, but costs $27. By car, take Route 163 to Clairemont Mesa Boulevard West to the first stop light. Turn left (north) on Kearny Mesa Road and look on left for the small Al Bahr Temple sign on the right side of the Hampton Inn.
Exhibits: SANDICAL, an APS World Series of Philately show, accepts all the exhibiting classes and divisions defined in the APS Manual of Philatelic Judging. Adult multi-frame entries are $10.00 per frame, $25.00 per single frame. Fees and ten copies of the exhibit's Title-Plan-Synopsis must be submitted to the Exhibits Chairman, Donald Chafetz, 1943 Altozano Drive, El Cajon, CA 92020 by December 12, 2008. The SANDICAL Awards Banquet will be held at the Butcher Shop on Saturday night for $45.
SOSSI Meeting: We will meet on Saturday. Please come to our society table where we will have details of the final arrangements. We are also planning to have a commemorative SOSSI cancel available on Saturday.
SOSSI Dinner: Our dinner will be on Friday evening. Sign up at the SOSSI table when we will have made all the arrangements.
