How to Navigate

The Table of Contents works very much like the table of contents in a book.  Each entry leads to a section which has its own table of contents.  For example,

#4 - Privately Printed Cards ( not official B.S.A. ),

leads to a list of the early sets of postcards that were published by someone other than the Boy Scouts of America.  The first of those is

(1) - The Scout Gum Cards,

which lists each of the twelve cards in this particular set.  From this card list, readers may jump to a specific card or start at the first card and then use the Next and Previous buttons to browse through all of the cards in this set.

At the top of each card's page is a series of links that looks like this:

Every page has a Title Page and a Contents link.  These are express links back to the Title Page and the main Table of Contents respectively.  The Private link in this example leads back to the menu that provided the list of privately printed cards.  This set, like many of the older ones, is also connected to a History page that provides information about the cards, such as the name of the company that published them, the signature of the artist who created the images, and pictures of the back of a card.  In appropriate cases, a history page may include copies of advertisements that appeared in Boy Scout equipment catalogs.  The Scout Gum Cards link in this example goes back to the list of cards in the set.

Some cards have a link to a list of cards on a specific topic.  In this example, card #5 in the Scout Gum Cards shows a Scout signaling.  The Signaling link reveals a list of several similar cards.

Occasionally a card will have a special link that provides a glimpse of an enlarged detail on the front of the card or of something special on the back of the card.  There will always be an option to return to the original image or to continue browsing either forward or backwards.

If at any point readers are uncertain which link to follow to return to a previous page, or if they encounter an accidental dead-end link, most browsers have a Go menu with a Back option that will extricate them.
