Since beginning publication in 1911, Boys' Life's mission is to entertain and educate America's youth and to open their eyes to the joyous world of reading.  This is accomplished through a proven mix of news, nature, sports, history, fiction, science, comics, and Scouting.

Art McKinney was SOSSI member #2, a founder and past president or our Society (1964+1965), who also served as our Journal Editor before his term as president.  He had been the Scout Executive for Chicago before his promotion to Assistant to the Chief Scout Executive Arthur Schuck.  He was also in charge of international relations for the Boy Scouts or America.  His great interest in SOSSI and his contacts with world Scouting nations gave prestige to our Society and our hobby.

In January 1951, Arthur became the Stamp Editor for Boys' Life writing the column called "About Stamps".  In June 1963 the column became "Stamps and Coins". During that period he wrote several Scouts on Stamps Checklists, some of which can be accessed below.  He continued writing the column until October 1968 when SOSSI member Walter G. MacPeek was assigned that position.  During most of this period (1953-1964), the editor of Boys' Life was Harry A. Harchar who later served as SOSSI President (1972-1974).
